Villa on French Riviera features Carminati's motorised timber windows

Designer Zeph Neil has incorporated Carminati's motorised Skyline Drive timber windows into a French Riviera villa, allowing a large section of the house to open to its outdoor spaces.

The expansive Skyline Drive windows are part of Carminati's Skyline Minimal Frames collection, featuring slim wooden mullions and large glass panes. The system's slimness is achieved by structurally bonding the glass to the timber sash.

Skyline Drive is a motorised lift-and-slide system controllable via wall button, remote, or smart home integration. The panels lift slightly and slide silently into a concealed wall pocket, opening the house to the garden and pool.

At Villa Ramatuelle, the system forms a six-panel glass wall around the living area, wrapping a corner of the house. It utilizes a patented recessed floor track with concealed carriages.

Each panel can carry up to 1,000 kilograms. The windows at Villa Ramatuelle are laminated oak, complementing the villa's stone and terracotta. Other timber options and a timber-metal version are available.

The Skyline Drive system also encloses a courtyard with a pool, where panels open to reveal the space. Neil also used other Carminati windows and doors throughout the villa.

Carminati, an Italian company founded in 1894, specializes in architectural wooden doors and windows, often with metal cladding. They develop bespoke installations through their in-house technical office.
