IKEA and Xbox Unveil YXSTABY Furniture Collection Inspired by Controller Designs

IKEA and Xbox have collaborated on a nine-piece furniture collection called YXSTABY, which incorporates design elements from Xbox controllers. The collection aims to integrate gaming seamlessly into home living spaces.

The YXSTABY collection features furniture pieces inspired by Xbox controller shapes, including a stool with a seat resembling an enlarged thumbstick, developed using the controller's original 3D files. IKEA designer David Wahl worked with Xbox to replicate the thumbstick's curve, balance, and grip texture. The collection also includes a cushion based on the controller's D-pad, and a stainless steel platter with similar geometry. A mirrored display box is designed for showcasing controllers and collectibles.

The collaboration was prompted by the shift in how people game at home, with activities now occurring in various living spaces. Philip Dilé from IKEA of Sweden noted that gaming is as much about relaxation and connection as performance. The furniture is designed to adapt to the player's needs and the shared home environment. This includes IKEA's first rolling TV stand with integrated storage for gaming gear, allowing the screen to be moved around the house. A portable toolbox is also included, which can function as a laptop stand when closed.

Carl Ledbetter from Xbox highlighted the importance of the surrounding environment in player immersion, extending beyond just hardware. The YXSTABY collection uses a subdued color palette of white, black, and beige, with green accents for equipment compartments, allowing the pieces to blend with existing furniture. The collection avoids aggressive gaming aesthetics, making it suitable for shared living areas. The YXSTABY collection was revealed at Gamescom and will be available in IKEA stores and online starting October 1st, 2026.
