Denver Festival Features Mobile Community Installations
The inaugural Denver Community Design Festival, "Common Ground," showcases five temporary installations designed to integrate community stories into public spaces. Co-developed by Leyuan Li and the Denver Mayor’s Office of Community Outreach, the festival runs from September 24th to October 7th, 2026, at the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

The festival brings together CU Denver students, designers, city leaders, and community organizations to explore community-led approaches to architecture and public space. Five installations, created in collaboration with organizations like the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition and Empower Media Exchange, respond to specific community needs and stories, taking forms such as performance stages or storytelling kiosks.
These installations utilize a flexible assembly system of wood, ratchet straps, and metal joints, allowing for easy dismantling and reassembly. This design enables the structures to be transported and adapted to various locations.
During the festival, the structures will host community-led events. Post-festival, they will be relocated to the neighborhoods of their partner organizations, continuing to serve as spaces for public interaction and community activity.
The project positions architecture as a tool for public exchange, bringing community-authored perspectives into Denver's built environment through reusable construction systems and community partnerships.
