Alexa Loses Voice Control for 3.5mm Aux Input

Amazon has removed voice control for the 3.5mm auxiliary input on its Alexa devices, though the physical port remains functional.

Previously, users could connect external audio sources to Echo devices via a 3.5mm aux jack and control playback with voice commands. This voice control functionality has now been disabled with the latest software update.

While the physical aux input still works, users must now use the Alexa smartphone app to manage audio from external devices, such as muting.

An Amazon representative confirmed the change, stating that analytics indicated low usage of the feature. Voice control for Bluetooth devices remains unaffected.

The removal of this feature has led to speculation among users, with some theorizing that Amazon's inability to monitor audio played through the aux input, unlike other sources, might be the underlying reason for its removal.
