World's Tallest Wind Turbine Built in Germany

A new 365-meter (1,197 ft) wind turbine in Germany, taller than the Eiffel Tower, aims to boost electricity production by harnessing stronger, higher winds.

The prototype turbine, located in Lusatia, a region transitioning to renewables, reached its full height and will be inaugurated in mid-November. Its hub height is 300 meters (984 ft).

Developer Gicon states that at 300 meters, winds are constant and strong enough to produce over twice the energy of conventional turbines, enabling generation for more of the year.

Internal wiring is still being installed. The prototype's purpose is to measure potential gains from turbines at such extreme heights.

Gicon plans to use findings for wind farms with multiple extra-tall turbines. They also see these as a solution to land scarcity, allowing 'two-story' configurations.

Germany is expanding renewables, having shut down its last nuclear plants in 2023 and planning to phase out coal by 2038.

In H1 2026, renewables provided 59.1% of Germany's energy, with wind being the largest source at 29.4%.
