Designer's Modified Porsche 914/6 for Sale

Luc Donckerwolke, a renowned car designer for Lamborghini, Bentley, and Hyundai Motor Group, is selling a unique 1970 Porsche 914/6 that he had extensively rebuilt by RUF.

Donckerwolke acquired the car in 2020 and sent it to RUF in Germany for a comprehensive restoration and modification. The finished car is now listed for sale on Bring a Trailer.

The Porsche 914, a collaboration between Porsche and Volkswagen, featured a mid-engine layout, distinguishing its proportions from the rear-engined 911. Its design, led by Heinrich Klie under Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, is noted for its modern, flat surfaces and unique profile.

This specific 914/6 had already undergone modifications in 1975, widening its body with steel flares to resemble Porsche's competition cars. Donckerwolke's decision to have RUF work on it added further custom elements.

RUF refinished the body in Grand Prix White, using lightweight fiberglass for various panels. The car now features a central fuel filler and wider Fuchs wheels, while RUF also rebuilt and enlarged the original flat-six engine from 2.0 to 2.4 liters.

Technical upgrades by RUF include improved brakes, oil cooling, suspension, and transmission. The interior was simplified with Recaro seats, a roll cage, and a Momo steering wheel, retaining the car's distinctive shape.

Despite the extensive technical work, the car's unusual and recognizable proportions, a hallmark of its original design, remain intact. The listing is open for bidding until September 30th, 2026.
