USB-C PD Analyzer Developed
A new USB-C Power Delivery (PD) protocol analyzer, named Dr. PD, has been developed to help understand and troubleshoot the complexities of the USB-C PD system.

USB-C PD simplifies power delivery by replacing numerous legacy standards with a single system. However, varying capabilities between power sources and devices can make it challenging to monitor.
Dr. PD can be placed between a USB-C PD source and sink, or it can emulate a sink to analyze a source. It supports a wide range of USB power protocols and operates up to the maximum 48 volts and 240 watts.
The project is open source, and a crowdfunding campaign is planned for those who wish to acquire the device without building it themselves.
Issues with non-compliant USB-C PD equipment, such as incorrect current handling or voltage supply, are common. This analyzer aims to address the challenges posed by such hardware.
