Uchronia Unveils Giant Floral Sculpture at Grand Palais

French design studio Uchronia has created a monumental floral installation titled "Le Grand Bouquet" for Paris Design Week, drawing inspiration from the Grand Palais museum's architecture.

The installation, located in the Antin Rotunda, references the building's mosaic floor and decorative mouldings. Uchronia founder Julien Sebban aimed for the sculpture to feel as if it had grown from the Grand Palais itself, blending the studio's vibrant style with the historic setting.

The large-scale metal sculpture features exaggerated floral elements, echoing the rotunda's existing decorations and creating a dialogue with the surroundings. Stylized petals appear to emerge from the floor, with the circular composition guiding the eye upward.

Uchronia collaborated with French artisans, including metalworkers Atelier François Pouenat for the structure and Seigneurie for painting. The base includes circular beds upholstered in silk by Manufacture Prelle, designed to encourage visitor interaction.

Sebban stated the intention was for visitors to "inhabit" the piece, with the beds introducing a domestic element to the grand scale. Furniture by Uchronia for Tiptoe, featuring FENIX surfaces, is also present.

An inflatable structure outside the building serves as a welcoming threshold. The installation is free to visit and aims to evoke joy, optimism, and shared experience.

"Le Grand Bouquet" is part of the Grand Palais Design and Arts and Crafts Boutique, celebrating craftsmanship and innovation. The Grand Palais recently underwent renovations.

Uchronia, founded in 2019, is known for its playful style combining color, vegetal forms, and craftsmanship. Previous works include a monumental bed installation for Paris Design Week.
