Damaged Samsung Galaxy S23 Repurposed as Gaming PC

A damaged Samsung Galaxy S23, bought for approximately $40, has been transformed into a functional gaming computer by [LastComputer].

The phone, despite appearing run over, was salvaged for its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The conversion involved careful disassembly, straightening the frame, and installing a new battery. A 3D-printed case attached to an SSD cage houses a 512 GB SSD, two USB hubs, and an HDMI output.

Active cooling was implemented by attaching a heatsink and fan to the vapor chamber, reducing temperatures by about seven degrees Celsius and noticeably decreasing thermal throttling. This improved the desktop experience in Samsung's DeX mode.

The repurposed device successfully emulates PS2 games like God of War and runs games via the Dolphin emulator. It also utilizes the GameHub app to play PC games from platforms like Steam and GoG. Samsung DeX is highlighted as a viable option for high-end Samsung phones supporting this mode.
