Repairing a Discounted Enterprise Network Switch

A user purchased a heavily discounted, untested enterprise-grade Juniper EX4100-F-12P network switch, suspecting a potential issue due to the low price.

Upon receiving the switch, it was discovered that the power supply brick was missing, and probing the 48VDC input revealed shorted voltage rails, indicating a likely reason for the steep discount.

Disassembly of the unit revealed a large aluminum heatsink and heatpipe, along with a burn mark near the power input. Further inspection showed signs of water damage, rust, corrosion, and evidence of component failure.
