Game Boy Diagnostic Cartridge Developed
A new diagnostic tool, the GB Test Lab, has been developed to thoroughly test the functionality of the original Game Boy (DMG-01). This homebrew cartridge aims to identify issues beyond basic game startup.

The GB Test Lab, created by Marcel Pflug of the Game Boy Museum, uses a freely available ROM that can be loaded onto a flash cartridge like the EverDrive. It autonomously tests various Game Boy functions, with some requiring user input.
This tool is comparable to Nintendo's own DMG-AGING-01 test cartridge, which verified the handheld's basic operations. While the homebrew community has produced many test cartridges, the GB Test Lab is designed to be exceptionally comprehensive.
Its tests include standard components like the CPU and RAM, as well as more specific issues such as button bounce time and intermittent connectivity. It also features tests involving link cable communication between two Game Boys and interaction with the GB Printer.
Test results are saved for each Game Boy and can be retained if the flash cartridge has battery backup. The ROM also includes a built-in reference guide with details on components, interpretation of results, and common symptoms.
