Electronic Concertina Replaces Bellows with Load Cell

A custom-built electronic concertina has been developed, reimagining the traditional instrument's mechanics.

This anglo concertina, commonly associated with folk music like sea shanties, operates without traditional bellows. Instead, it simulates their function using a load cell to measure the force exerted between its fixed wooden chassis ends.

The instrument features Cherry MX switches with custom keycaps, mounted on PCBs. A Teensy 4.0 microcontroller drives the system, and a USB extension lead is incorporated for strain relief.
