DIY Plotter Creates Lunar Topographical Art

A maker has designed and built a custom plotter capable of creating detailed topographical maps of celestial bodies, starting with the Moon.

The project uses a custom algorithm to transform elevation data into vector drawings, which are then plotted by the machine. The plotter itself is built using an Arduino and stepper motors, with the creator detailing iterative design improvements.

Beyond the Moon, the plotter has also been used to create topographical plots of Mars and Earth. The complexity lies in generating the contour maps and realizing the plotting concept.
