Melaka's Abandoned Monorail
A monorail system built in Melaka, Malaysia, in 2008 has been permanently closed due to persistent technical issues and low usage.

Construction of the monorail, part of 'The Shore' development, finished in 2010 at a cost of RM16.5 million. Shortly after opening, technical problems led to vehicles stopping and trapping passengers.
The system experienced multiple closures and re-openings over several years to address ongoing technical faults. It was closed from 2013 to 2017, then reopened until the COVID-19 pandemic.
Low passenger numbers contributed to the decision to close the monorail permanently. Much of the infrastructure, including elevated tracks and the main office, remains standing. Some areas are accessible, but interiors are off-limits.
