Terre Radiator by Sebastian Herkner for Tubes

Italian heating brand Tubes has launched Terre, its first radiator made from terracotta, designed by Sebastian Herkner. The radiator utilizes the traditional material for both its surface and structural body.

Named after the Italian word for "earth," the Terre radiator is crafted from clay sourced from Tuscany's Impruneta quarry. This offers a rustic alternative to typical metal radiators.

The terracotta is extruded into a long, vertical form, then fired and glazed in one of five glossy colors, including a transparent option. It incorporates an integrated electric heating element made from recycled aluminum.

Designer Sebastian Herkner expressed his interest in using traditional materials in new contexts, stating, "Terracotta is an authentic material, connected to earth and warmth." He believes its use in a heating object creates a natural link between function and material.

The Terre radiator can be customized with optional accessories, such as a marble or lacquered shelf, allowing it to function as a shelf in hallways, or a metal towel rail, converting it into a towel warmer for bathrooms.
