Tecnológico de Monterrey students showcase dark-themed designs

Tecnológico de Monterrey design students have created thirteen monochromatic projects, exploring the concept of "black" as a primary material and ancestral heritage. The exhibition, part of Design Week México, features pieces developed with Mexican artisans.

The "Black: A Study of Mexican Dark Matter" course resulted in objects like "Estrato," a book organizer made of volcanic stone, and "Tatemada," a table lamp crafted from black clay inspired by Oaxacan smoke kitchens.

Other creations include "Comitl," a decorative vessel referencing ancient corn storage structures, and "Inframundo," a ceramic cacao set designed to evoke Mesoamerican cosmology.

"Veda" is an appetizer plate using a frosted glass dome over a volcanic stone base, inspired by censorship in Mexican cinema.

"Bartola," a stool made of purpleheart wood and leather, revalues traditional crafts and conscious material use.

"Bucle" is a modular shelving system that scales up jewelry-making techniques using crocheted wire.

"Rastro" features charred wood pieces for wall cladding, with reliefs mimicking cooling lava, and "El Resguardo" is a family of marble containers with charred wood lids.
