Parisian Restaurant Arcane 17 Features Wood-Heavy Design Inspired by Iberian Taverns

Marseille-based Bétyle Studio has designed the interiors for Arcane 17, a Basque and Catalan restaurant in Paris, aiming to reinterpret the Iberian tavern concept with a contemporary aesthetic.

Located in Le Marais, the petite eatery is situated in a historic building. Bétyle Studio founders Carla Romano and Nicolas Cazenave de la Roche sought to honor the owners' Catalan heritage by avoiding literal reproductions of traditional Spanish restaurants.

The design emphasizes wood throughout the space. The dining area features ebonised panelling, while the bar incorporates marquetry with playful motifs. Inspiration was drawn from rural churches, dark woods, and traditional fans, translated through materials and forms rather than literal representation.

Classic bentwood chairs and timber tables furnish the dining area. A red banquette in a corner offers a subtle nod to Parisian bistros. All joinery was custom-made by a Marseille carpenter, using various wood treatments to create depth and a sense of history.

Local studio Côme Clérino created plaster sconces resembling elongated seashells for the restaurant. Bétyle Studio, founded in 2025, specializes in interior architecture and furniture design.
