Spacon designs Seoul showroom and cafe with Danish home feel

Copenhagen studio Spacon has created a showroom and cafe in Seoul for the Danish brand Edition Denmark, aiming to evoke the "layered feeling of a home" through the use of vintage furniture and found objects.

The 50-square-metre space in central Seoul is designed for a South Korean brand selling Danish products and features an adjacent eatery, reflecting the hospitality culture shared by both countries. Visitors can purchase tableware and products from the cafe.

Spacon founding partner Malene Hvidt stated the project focused on cultural exchange, connecting everyday rituals through the cafe and shop. Wood was a primary material, chosen to create a warm, familiar, and lived-in atmosphere, combined with cherry wood, terracotta tiles, woven stools, and textile lamps referencing Danish craft.

The showroom incorporates classic Danish furniture, such as Børge Mogensen's Folkestolen chair, alongside custom furniture, art, and found objects to achieve a personal, layered aesthetic. Engraved trays with Danish flowers were added as small decorative elements.

The cafe uses moss-green stained wood and terracotta for a calming feel, while the showroom features a mirrored ceiling to enhance the sense of space and reflect displayed items. This project marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration between Spacon and Edition Denmark.
