New VLC Media Player version available

Version 3.0.24 of the open-source media player VLC Media Player has been released. This update brings various improvements and new functionalities.

The update includes codec improvements, including support for FFmpeg 8.1, APV decoder, and Atrac3/Atrac9 decoding. There are also fixes for WebVTT, FLAC, and HEVC, and support for schroedinger has been removed in favor of avcodec.

In terms of demuxers, there are improvements for subtitles, including language detection from filenames and metadata. There is now also support for CEA-708 closed captions in MP4 and metadata in the MPEG demuxer. Various crashes and issues with MKV, AVI, and other formats have been resolved.

The media player now supports RIST input/output with librist and SRT listener mode. SFTP has improved authentication options, and SMB2 share enumeration has been updated. The RealRTSP plugin has been removed.

For video output, there are fixes for Direct3D11 and MediaCodec. There is now also Super Resolution scaling with Moore Threads GPUs. On Windows, there is support for NV12 DirectShow capture and improved UWP compatibility.

The interface has been improved with fixes for the default open dialog and the effects window geometry in Qt. The hotkeys dialog has improved texts.

In terms of streaming, HEVC has been disabled for original Chromecast devices. The update also includes security fixes for various vulnerabilities, including OOB, integer overflow, and use-after-free issues. There is a new RSA-4096 key for update verification.

Furthermore, support for Flatpak builds has been added. The NPAPI browser plugin has been removed, and the defective youtube.lua plugin has also been removed. On Windows, startup issues during daylight saving time changes have been resolved.
