Software-update Fabreasy PDFixer 1.0.3

Fabreasy has released version 1.0.3 of PDFixer, a Dutch program for Windows to edit, sign, and secure PDF documents. Documents are stored locally.

The update ensures that a document still complies with PDF/A after saving. TrueType fonts are embedded smaller by including only used characters. Problems with PDF/A 2u and 2b, text extraction, secure saving, and letterhead sets have been resolved.

The 'Save with password' function is now called 'Secure save'. Saving with a certificate has been adjusted. The dialog now also sets what the recipient is allowed to do, and the opening password is optional.

Files become smaller because only used characters of TrueType fonts are embedded (approx. 20 kB instead of >1 MB). Symbol fonts such as Wingdings are still fully embedded.

When 'Save as PDF/A', ligatures such as "ti" and "ft" are now correctly saved with Unicode text, making them copyable and searchable.

In version 1.0.2, the ability to save as PDF/A was added (PDF/A-2u or PDF/A-2b). Non-embedded fonts are retrieved from the PC or replaced. Content that PDF/A prohibits is removed, and results are checked with veraPDF.

For documents with attachments, such as the XML of an e-invoice, PDFixer asks whether these should be retained (PDF/A-3) or removed (PDF/A-2). Very long pages can also be saved as PDF/A.

The first stable release (1.0.0) introduced the ability to open password-protected PDFs and offered secure saving with AES-256 encryption and digital signatures. It also allowed users to add and place their own symbols.
