Snøhetta's Lech Mountain Mirror Offers Reflective Alpine Views

Architecture studio Snøhetta has designed the Lech Mountain Mirror, a new viewpoint in Austria's Lech village, aiming to enhance the area's appeal as a year-round destination.

The installation features a shallow pool on the roof of the Zugerbergbahn cable car station, with striped stepping stones leading across its surface to a central rock. Visitors can walk across the water, which reflects the surrounding mountains and sky, creating a dynamic visual experience that changes with weather and light.

Snøhetta's design transforms an infrastructure element into a space for sensory engagement, allowing visitors to observe the alpine landscape from a unique perspective. The shifting reflections, influenced by wind and light, are intended to encourage moments of pause and contemplation.

The Lech Mountain Mirror is part of broader art initiatives in the region aimed at boosting summer tourism, complementing other projects by artists like Antony Gormley and James Turrell.
