10 Designers Reimagine Hanging Baskets for London Design Festival

Design gallery Slancha has curated an exhibition for the London Design Festival, featuring 10 designers who have reinterpreted the traditional hanging basket as a collectable design object.

The exhibition, held at fashion agency Awaykin, showcases diverse interpretations using materials ranging from laser-cut steel and melted polystyrene to 3D-printed cups and hand-carved aluminum tubes. The designers were given a loose framework of bracket, suspension, and vessel to work within.

Notable pieces include Nicolas Zanoni's "Pyrofoam Planter," made from melted polystyrene waste, and Coline Le Quenven's "Tri-diatreta," which combines Roman cage cup references with 3D-printed elements. Romain Basile Petrot's design features stacked aluminum plates engraved with David Bowie lyrics.

Other contributions include Marc Sweeney's use of a recycled champagne bucket with a stainless-steel chain, Martha McGuinn's laser-cut steel forms inspired by medieval manuscripts, and Hanna Fastrich's brutalism-inspired ceramic piece.

The exhibition also features smaller tubular aluminum forms by Six Dots Design and ThisIsByron, and a multi-material piece by Sheyang Li. All Ears studio presents a design with four vases held in a striped wooden block.

The hanging baskets were styled with floral arrangements by Studio Kumari. This exhibition follows Slancha's previous successful LDF show, "The Car Boot Sale."

The "Hanging Baskets" exhibition is on display at Awaykin from September 14-20 as part of the London Design Festival.
