DIY Ski Lift for Live Mouse Removal from Chicken Coop

A creator has developed a semi-automated ski lift system designed to trap and relocate mice from a chicken coop, aiming for a more effective live-removal strategy.

The system consists of two main parts: the mouse traps (gondolas) and the lift mechanism. The gondolas, 3D printed with acrylic windows, function as traps. Mice enter through a trap door on the ceiling, lured by bait, and fall inside. A second trap door at the bottom automatically opens to release the mice into a brush pile.

The lift, constructed from wood and scrap parts, transports the gondolas down a hill. After initial adjustments, the creator found the lift to be working reliably for automatic mouse release.

It is currently too early to determine if this live-removal method is more effective than traditional pest control techniques. The creator is also exploring other methods to prevent mice from entering buildings.

Simpler catch-and-release mousetraps are available as an alternative for those not pursuing a ski lift solution.
