Ephemeral Installation Becomes Collectible Design

A temporary spatial installation for Amsterdam Fashion Week 2026 has been transformed into a limited-edition series of collectible design objects by natural stone brand SolidNature and designer Sabine Marcelis.

Following a positive reception to their collaborative table setting at the event's opening dinner, the duo has released 400 sculptural candleholders. Originally arranged to create a visual gradient, these individual pieces now allow users to create modular setups mimicking the fluid movement and color of a flame.

This collaboration builds on a shared design language focused on material exploration. While a previous project used stone as an architectural foundation, this collection brings the material to the tabletop to shape ambient atmosphere. Marcelis focuses on light, geometry, and material transformation, while SolidNature provides expertise in sourcing and carving rare natural stones.

The commercial release refines the concept into two stone types: Honey Onyx, with its translucent orange surface, and Sunset Dune Travertine, featuring an earthy red hue and porous texture. Each piece is carved from solid blocks, retaining a unique curved silhouette designed for three dinner candles.

The direction of the cut reveals varying veining patterns, ensuring each candleholder is unique. Offered in two lengths (500 and 650 mm) with a uniform width of 100 mm and height of 150 mm, there are 100 pieces of each of the four distinct variations. The collection is available exclusively through the SolidNature webshop.
