Ryno equips London rooftop with integrated terracing system

Ryno's TerraSmart Lattice Rail System has been utilized for a London rooftop terrace project by interior studio Thirdway Group, enabling the integration of planting, balustrading, seating, and entertainment areas without compromising the roof's waterproofing.

The system functions as a single, integrated support structure, allowing for seamless coordination of various design elements. It includes Ryno's BaseLink, a freestanding connection component that secures balustrades directly to the structure without roof penetration. Multiple surface finishes, such as Ryno's Vitrified Composite decking, can also be incorporated.

The project features ledge and contour planters that accommodate integrated seating and rainwater outlets, designed to meet maintenance needs without affecting the terrace's aesthetics. LED downlighting was integrated into the planters to enhance the atmosphere for evening use.

A bar area, initially omitted due to structural concerns, was added with minimal disruption by altering the planter design. Ryno's freestanding balustrade connection component allowed for the integration of their Linear Track system into the decking and paving, avoiding additional steelwork or waterproofing disturbance.

The flexibility of Ryno's system allowed design decisions to remain open longer. An access gate was also connected directly to the terrace structure using an integrated fixing baseplate, eliminating the need for separate steelwork. The completed terrace serves as an outdoor extension of Thirdway's headquarters for meetings and employee use.
