Rural Futures Symposium Explores New Perspectives on Rural Territories

An international symposium, "Rural Futures | Future Rurals," will be held in Istanbul on October 15-16, 2026, to explore new perspectives on rural geographies and futures.

The symposium aims to reconsider rural territories by viewing them as a shared space for all entities, challenging traditional urban-centric perspectives. It seeks to foster new discussions and possibilities for the future of rural areas.

Organized in collaboration with Istanbul Technical University and the ARENA Alter Rurality Project, the event will bring together transdisciplinary studies on rural territories, alternative living, and design research. It poses the question, "What are we looking for?" to encourage critical and creative insights into "the futures of the rural" and "the rurals of the future."
