RSHP and ERRE to Design New Valencia Central Station

A consortium led by Sener, including RSHP and ERRE, has been selected by Adif Alta Velocidad to design a new intermodal rail hub for Valencia, Spain. The project aims to integrate various transport modes and connect with existing urban development plans.

The new station will serve as an underground hub, linking the current Central Station with Valencia Nord Station and the future Central Park. A landscape axis with pedestrian and cycle routes will connect these areas, culminating in a Station Square. This redesign will also transition the railway from a terminus to through services, enabling north-south travel without reversing trains.

The design prioritizes railway functionality, urban integration, architectural identity, constructability, and operational safety. It features a modular construction system with significant prefabrication and is designed to allow continuous railway operations during construction. The historic Valencia Nord Station's façades will be preserved while integrating new infrastructure.

The project includes functional studies and design for relocating tracks underground, along with developing station entrances, concourses, platforms, retail areas, and an underground car park. The design aims to maximize natural light and ventilation in the underground spaces, visually connecting different levels and reducing reliance on mechanical systems to lower the station's carbon footprint.
