Lime-green gateway and blue solar canopy transform Murcia sports center

A municipal sports center in Murcia, Spain, has been renovated by meii estudio with a focus on energy production and user comfort, introducing a vibrant new architectural identity.

The project features a lime-green ceramic facade for the entrance building, creating a welcoming gateway that unifies facilities like changing rooms and offices. This entrance building is clad in ribbed ceramic tiles and has a foldable metal facade, blurring the lines between the town and the complex.

A prominent element is 'LA PÉRGOLA,' a folded photovoltaic canopy above the football stands. Its design is dictated by the optimal orientation and inclination of solar panels, calculated for the local latitude to maximize energy generation.

Constructed with a steel structure and clad in blue metal sheeting, LA PÉRGOLA's appearance changes with the light, creating a visual dialogue with the green entrance. It also provides essential shade for the stands.
