Lourmel Student Housing by MARS Architectes

MARS Architectes has designed the Lourmel student housing project in Paris, France, aiming to create a dynamic intermediate structure between existing buildings and a central garden.

The project, spanning 2100 m² and slated for completion in 2025, is built on the site of a former parking ramp.

Instead of a single continuous volume, the design features four distinct blocks that are slightly offset and rotated.

These shifts and rotations are strategically implemented to address constraints related to distance, views, and privacy.

The design opens up diagonal perspectives, enhances natural daylight, and strengthens the connection to the surrounding landscape.

The volumes progressively recede towards the center of the block, fostering a more open and permeable relationship with the street.

The existing courtyard area has also undergone a complete re-landscaping as part of the project.
