Range Rover Unveils First All-Electric SUV

JLR has launched the Range Rover Electric, its first fully electric vehicle, combining off-roading capabilities with EV performance. The new SUV boasts enhanced torque and responsiveness, aiming to maintain the brand's signature refinement across all terrains.

The Range Rover Electric is powered by two 260-kilowatt motors, generating more torque than any previous Range Rover and significantly more than motors of similar size. Its advanced traction management system reacts to slip in as little as 50 milliseconds, a hundred times faster than combustion engine models. The vehicle can tackle 45-degree slopes and wade through 900 millimeters of water, fully submerging the battery and motors.

Matt Becker, JLR vehicle engineering director, highlighted the electric driveline's contribution to the vehicle's performance across all surfaces, emphasizing effortless comfort and refinement. The SUV offers 550 brake horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds. A 118.5 kilowatt-hour battery, located under the floor, provides a range of up to 372 miles.

Visually, the Range Rover Electric closely resembles its traditional counterparts, with minor aerodynamic optimizations to the grille, wheels, and underbody to extend range. JLR has filed 300 patents for the vehicle's components, including its battery and motors, which will be produced at its Wolverhampton facility. The SUV will be manufactured in Solihull. Other heritage brands like Rolls-Royce and Ferrari have also recently introduced their first electric models.
