Qingdeng Village Art Museum / atelier anonymous

The Qingdeng Village Art Museum, designed by atelier anonymous, aims to revive public life in China's countryside by transforming vacant administrative buildings into spaces for community gathering. The project is located in Suzhou and has an area of 1200 m², with completion expected in 2026.

The design is inspired by the decline of public life in rural Jiangnan, where traditional gathering spots like banyan tree shades and ancestral halls are disappearing due to shifting social structures. Simultaneously, many administrative buildings are left vacant after functional consolidation.

The core question driving the project is whether administrative spaces can be repurposed to serve as living spaces, thereby reintroducing public life and community interaction into the village.
