Populous and Moody Nolan design 76ers and Flyers arena

Architecture studios Populous and Moody Nolan have unveiled designs for a new arena in Philadelphia, intended to serve as the home for the NBA's 76ers, the NHL's Flyers, and a future WNBA team.

The planned circular venue will replace the Xfinity Mobile Arena in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. Its design features concentric stacked rings, alternating between glazed facades and LED displays, drawing inspiration from the city's former Spectrum arena.

The teams stated the design reimagines the Spectrum's shape through a contemporary lens, aiming to create a recognizable landmark. The exterior's stacked, cantilevered bands are intended to break down the scale of a typical arena.

The surrounding plaza will include active outdoor spaces and restaurants. The final design is pending fan feedback.

The project is described by the owners, Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Comcast Spectacor, as the largest fully privately funded project in Philadelphia's history.
