Perseverance Rover Captures 360-Degree View of Martian 'Turquoise Bay'

NASA's Perseverance rover has captured a detailed 360-degree panorama of a geological area of interest on Mars known as 'Turquoise Bay.' The images were taken in October 2023.

The panorama, composed of 818 individual images, was taken by the rover's Mastcam-Z camera between the 933rd and 944th Martian days of the mission. This area is part of the 'Margin Unit' on Mars.

An enhanced-color version of the panorama, Figure A, was also created. This version uses processed color bands to improve visual contrast and highlight differences in color within the scene.

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, managed by Caltech, is responsible for the Perseverance rover's operations. Arizona State University leads the Mastcam-Z instrument's operations, collaborating with Malin Space Science Systems and the Niels Bohr Institute on its design and functionality.
