Orms proposes BT Tower hotel with rooftop pool

Architecture studio Orms has submitted plans to convert London's BT Tower into a hotel, including a publicly accessible rooftop swimming pool.

The proposal involves restoring the Grade II-listed tower, podium, and adjacent Howland Building. If approved by the London Borough of Camden, the complex will house a hotel with ground-floor retail and dining, and a swimming pool atop the podium.

Plans also aim to enhance the surrounding public space and open the upper levels of the 177-metre tower to the public for the first time since 1981.

The BT Tower, originally the Post Office Tower, opened in 1964 and was London's tallest building until 1980. Its revolving restaurant closed in the early 1980s.

MCR acquired the tower in 2024, with Orms taking over the transformation project this year after Heatherwick Studio was initially slated to lead.

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2029 after the building is vacated, with a projected opening by 2033.
