Oculus Tower: A Monument to Ferrara's Industrial Past
The Oculus Tower in Ferrara, Italy, is a striking seven-story circular concrete structure that was once the central distillation hub of the Eridania industrial complex.

The tower features a large open center with galleries on each of its seven levels, surrounding a void where distillation equipment once stood. A glass oculus at the top allowed natural light to illuminate the interior.
The distillery processed beet molasses into various types of alcohol for products ranging from liqueurs to cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
After the industrial complex closed in the early 2000s, most of the site was demolished, leaving the Oculus Tower as its most prominent remaining structure.
Today, the tower is recognized as a significant example of Italian industrial archaeology, noted for its monumental, geometric, and theatrical appearance.
Visitors should be aware that the surrounding industrial complex has undergone redevelopment, and access to the tower may be restricted. It is recommended to view the tower from a safe and legal vantage point, respecting private property and local regulations.
