UFC Launches National Competition for Arts, Culture, and Events Center
The Federal University of Ceará (UFC), in collaboration with the Institute of Architects of Brazil – Ceará Department (IAB/CE), has initiated a national competition for the architectural, urban, and landscape design of its new Arts, Culture, and Events Center.

The project is slated for a significant location on the Fortaleza waterfront, specifically at 9 Arariús Street in the Praia de Iracema neighborhood, on the site of the former São Pedro Building and Iracema Plaza Hotel.
Currently, the site hosts the São Pedro Cultural Plaza, a public area managed by the UFC Dean of Culture, which preserves urban permeability and the community's connection to the area.
Registration for the competition opened on August 13, 2026, and will close on October 6, 2026. Final proposal submissions are due by October 21, 2026.
Competition guidelines emphasize the need for proposals to address the existing urban context and the site's historical and symbolic importance, integrating the memory of the place into the architectural design.
