NASA ORBIT Challenge 2027

NASA is launching the ORBIT Challenge for university and community college students, offering opportunities in research, business, innovation, and technology.

The challenge allows students to work with NASA intellectual property and mission challenges, with two paths: developing commercial applications of NASA patents for Earth-based problems (ORBIT Earth) or designing technologies for space exploration (ORBIT Space).

Teams can also pursue both paths through an optional Integration Bonus.

The competition offers up to $500,000 in prizes, mentorship from NASA experts, and a chance to present work at an in-person showcase.

Finalists will participate in an exclusive accelerator program aimed at launching careers in STEM and entrepreneurship.

The challenge opens on September 14, 2026, with registration closing on November 16, 2026.
