NASA Promotes Open Science for Artemis Program

NASA is committed to sharing all scientific data from its Artemis Moon missions with the global community, a principle supported by all 71 signatory nations of the Artemis Accords.

To facilitate this, NASA hosted a two-part virtual workshop series focused on the timely release of scientific data. These workshops aimed to promote transparency, collaboration, and accessibility in space exploration, accelerating understanding of lunar processes and future human space endeavors.

The sessions built upon earlier discussions led by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and focused on open science principles, implementation practices, and tools for data sharing. NASA shared its Planetary Data System as an example of structuring, curating, and sharing scientific data.

The Artemis Accords, established in 2020, outline principles for safe and transparent civil space exploration, including peaceful exploration, rendering aid, enabling access to scientific data, avoiding interference, and preserving historical sites.
