NASA Aircraft to Study Agricultural Emissions Over Colorado

NASA will conduct low-altitude research flights over farmland near Greeley, Colorado, in October 2026 to measure agricultural emissions.

The FarmFlux mission will use a Dynamic Aviation A200 aircraft equipped with over a dozen sensors to measure ozone, methane, ammonia, particulates, and other pollutants. These measurements will help understand emissions from agricultural lands and animal farms and their interaction with the atmosphere.

The mission is a collaborative effort led by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Colorado State University, and Boston University.

This Colorado deployment marks the initial phase of the FarmFlux mission. Subsequent flights are planned over farmland in Amarillo, Texas, from late October to early November.

Future research flights are scheduled for the March to July 2027 growing season, utilizing a NASA P-3 Orion aircraft over croplands in the Midwest and California's Central Valley.
