MSCHF Transforms Lexus Cars into Sculptures

Art collective MSCHF has created two full-scale sculptures by radically altering Lexus vehicles, giving them the appearance of being digitally manipulated.

Commissioned by Lexus, the exhibition "MOTOMORPHOSIS" features two "Form Cars" in New York from September 24th to 26th, 2026. The sculptures, "Circle Car" and "Twisted Car," use the visual language of 3D animation's squash-and-stretch and smear frames, making temporary deformations permanent.

"Circle Car" transforms a Lexus RZ450e into a continuous ring by bending its entire length until the front meets the rear. The wheels and cabin follow the curve, preserving enough of the original car to appear plausible. This sculpture highlights how car identity relies on proportion and direction.

"Twisted Car" takes a Lexus RX450h+ and twists its body longitudinally around an invisible axis. Surface lines and features follow the spiral, as if the vehicle were momentarily caught in opposing forces. MSCHF describes these as "Form Cars," where movement is integrated into the shape itself rather than the vehicle's travel.

The exhibition will display the sculptures alongside their production counterparts, the Lexus RZ450e and RX450h+, at Chelsea Industrial in New York.
