David Siegel Named MIT Innovation Fellow

Computer scientist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist David Siegel will serve as the next MIT Innovation Fellow for the 2026-27 academic year, focusing on how artificial intelligence can accelerate scientific discovery.

Siegel, an alumnus with degrees from MIT's AI Lab, will collaborate with the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing. He has a long history with the Institute, including roles on the MIT Corporation and advisory committees.

His background includes co-founding the investment firm Two Sigma, which utilizes data science and AI. He also established the Siegel Family Endowment to support research on technology's societal impact.

Through the nonprofit Open Athena, Siegel aims to provide academic research labs with AI talent and resources, and is developing a public foundation model called Marin.

Siegel is also an investor and advisor in the AI ecosystem and will release a book on autonomous AI with MIT Press next March, coinciding with his fellowship.

The Innovation Fellows program brings experienced professionals to MIT to engage with faculty and students, offering strategic counsel and fostering connections.
