Portable Robotics Platform Developed for Mexican Schools

A team of engineering students and faculty at ITESO, Universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara, has created RoboMeshA, a portable educational platform designed to bring robotics and AI learning to high schools lacking advanced technology resources.

RoboMeshA functions as a self-contained mobile learning network, allowing students to interact with a robot via a web browser without needing complex software installations or dedicated labs. The platform integrates mechanical design, embedded systems, control engineering, computer vision, and AI.

The project aims to provide hands-on experience in STEM fields for students who typically lack access to such tools. It allows them to see how different engineering disciplines work together in a tangible system.

The team built two units and is developing a modular framework to allow up to four robots to operate together, expanding the system's capabilities for research and classroom use.

Design challenges included creating a stable, rigid, and accessible structural design for the robot's components, as well as ensuring the platform was intuitive for students with varying experience levels.

RoboMeshA was validated in classroom settings at CETI Colomos and Prepa ITESO high schools, focusing on a simple and user-friendly initial interaction for students.

The project provided students with practical experience in project management, system integration, and user-centered design, emphasizing the social impact of engineering.

The team hopes RoboMeshA will serve as a model for integrating technical innovation with community engagement in educational settings, both in Mexico and internationally.
