Metal Twill Chair by Gibson Karlo for Design By Them

Australian studio Gibson Karlo has released an all-metal version of its Twill chair for Design By Them, retaining the original's plasticine-inspired aesthetic.

The new iteration is made from aluminium with at least 30 per cent recycled content. It maintains the visual language and stackability of the 2022 timber version, which was inspired by the look of a fresh pack of plasticine.

The chair features an uncoated, hand-burnished raw aluminium finish, designed to develop a patina over time with use. This lack of a top coat allows for easy maintenance and restoration, as the surface cannot be scratched through.

An optional seat pad is available for added comfort. The designers highlighted the intricate metal detailing and the new color possibilities inspired by plasticine strips.

Design By Them produces the chairs in a solar-powered facility and offers a five-year warranty. The chairs are available in burnished aluminium and several powder-coated colors, including chocolate brown, rust red, and black.
