Meta Portal Repurposed as Wireless Display

An open-source project allows users to repurpose the defunct Meta Portal as an extended wireless display for Apple devices.

The Meta Portal, discontinued by Meta in 2022, was essentially an Android tablet with locked-down functionality. However, by enabling Android Debug Bridge (ADB), it can be repurposed.

A new project, Wormhole Display, offers an APK that transforms the Meta Portal into an AirPlay-compatible extended display for Macs, iPhones, and iPads. Users can choose between screen mirroring or using it as a secondary display, with the option to utilize the Portal's speakers.

The software is an Android port of UxPlay, an AirPlay server that leverages the Meta Portal's hardware decoder for video and audio.
