The Met Warehouse, originally a fortress-like storage facility, has been transformed into a modern hub for MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning. The renovation, led by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, introduced extensive glass walls and skylights to bring natural light into the five-story structure.

The interior now features double-height design studios, an auditorium, flexible classrooms, and open corridors designed to foster collaboration and connectivity among students and faculty.

MIT President Sally Kornbluth highlighted the building's potential to address educational challenges posed by AI, emphasizing the importance of hands-on, collaborative problem-solving in human settings.

Architect Elizabeth Diller noted the building's design allows for future evolution, stating it should remain a "work in progress" and "definitively unfinished."

The dedication ceremony acknowledged numerous contributors, including campus leaders, donors, faculty, architects, and builders. Key supporters mentioned were the Morningside Foundation, Sidara, and the LUMA Foundation, whose gifts established interdisciplinary centers within the building.

The Morningside Academy for Design (MAD) and the MIT LUMA Lab are among the new centers housed in the Met Warehouse, aiming to connect diverse disciplines and foster innovation.
