MIT Future Fest, a new annual festival celebrating science, technology, art, and design, will commence with a panel featuring Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and MIT President Sally Kornbluth. The event aims to highlight innovation and address future-shaping questions.

The inaugural festival, curated by the MIT Museum, will run from September 30 to October 4, 2026, across the MIT campus. The opening panel, "The Future Begins Here," will include Moderna co-founder Noubar Afeyan, MIT professor Sangeeta Bhatia, and Commonwealth Fusion Systems CEO Bob Mumgaard. Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley will moderate a discussion on collaboration between public, private, and educational institutions to foster talent and innovation.

Governor Healey emphasized Massachusetts' role as a hub for invention and expressed a desire for the state to attract global talent for study, research, and entrepreneurship. She highlighted the administration's investment in talent, research, and partnerships to support this vision.

MIT President Kornbluth spoke about the festival celebrating the spirit of curiosity that drives breakthrough discoveries. She believes that bringing together diverse innovators creates conditions for transformative innovation and encourages participation in shaping the future.

The opening panel is one of over 70 events, including talks, tours, performances, exhibitions, and open laboratories, that comprise the five-day program. Further details are available on the official festival website.
