Margaret Hamilton, Apollo Software Pioneer, Dies at 90

Margaret Hamilton, a pivotal figure in software engineering whose work was crucial to the Apollo space missions, has passed away at the age of 90.

As Director of the Software Engineering Division at MIT's Instrumentation Laboratory, Hamilton led the team responsible for developing the software that guided the Apollo lunar lander, enabling successful moon landings and safe returns.

Hamilton is credited with coining the term "software engineering" while at NASA, aiming to elevate the status of programming as a discipline.

After years of her contributions being largely unrecognized, Hamilton gained significant recognition later in life, with her likeness appearing on educational materials and even in a LEGO figure.
