MAD Designs Danshuis Dance Center in Rotterdam Warehouse

MAD Architects has unveiled designs for Danshuis, a new dance center set to transform a 1923 Art Deco warehouse in Rotterdam's historic docklands. The project, expected to open in 2030, aims to foster dance across various styles and skill levels.

The 9,500-square-meter center will house 14 dance studios, an open podium, gym, exhibition space, café, and a rooftop venue for public programs, all connected by a central vertical foyer. Extensive outdoor areas along the riverfront are also planned.

Developed by the Droom en Daad Foundation, Danshuis will serve as a hub for dance education, production, rehearsal, performance, and exhibitions, connecting local communities and international professionals.

MAD founder Ma Yansong stated the design integrates human movement and dance into the district's character, creating a dialogue with the adjacent Fenix Museum of Migration, also designed by MAD.
