Kimpton Era Hotel in New York Inspired by Ocean Liners
Architecture studio INC has designed the Kimpton Era hotel in New York, aiming to evoke the experience of a stateroom on a luxury ocean liner.

The 529-room hotel is located in a 33-storey tower near Rockefeller Plaza. Its interiors blend New York's uptown elegance with downtown grit, drawing inspiration from the grandeur of historic ocean liners that once docked in the city.
Materials were selected to reflect this duality, combining refined elements like marble, brass, and leather with industrial touches such as concrete and blackened steel. A central feature is a triple-height atrium with a spiraling blackened steel staircase.
Guest rooms are designed as compact, refined spaces with integrated white oak millwork that combines the bed, desk, and storage. Neutral palettes are accented with jewel-toned fabrics and brass.
The hotel features five dining venues, including a Latin American eatery, a second-floor brasserie with mosaic floors, and a rooftop bar with a design referencing Chinatown's dining rooms.
Wet-room-style bathrooms utilize space-saving frosted glass doors.
INC aimed to create a "self-contained voyage" where the hotel's spaces mimic the salons and staterooms of a grand ocean liner, offering a new interpretation of New York luxury.
