Librairie Avant-Garde Huize Baiwu Bookstore by Jiakun Architects

Jiakun Architects has designed the Librairie Avant-Garde Huize Baiwu Bookstore, a project aiming to revitalize rural spaces in Baiwu Village, China.

The bookstore is located in Baiwu Village, Huize County, Qujing, Yunnan, a historic and cultural area known for its diverse ethnic groups and convergence of migrant cultures.

Historically, the village was a significant stop on the copper transportation route from Huize to the capital, earning it the nickname "Copper Capital."

The project seeks to draw upon the local context and site conditions to reshape the village's cultural and public spaces.

The design team includes Principal Architect LIU Jiakun, with DONG Yanmeng, WEN Feng, WEI Zhiming, HE Qiang, YANG Ying, LIU Su, and ZHANG Wei.

The project spans 670 m² and is slated for completion in 2025.

Key collaborators include Shanghai Garden Group Corporation Kunming Branch as the general contractor and Sichuan Bamboo Era Technology Co., Ltd for the bamboo structure and furniture.
